Nieuws: Regional, sustainable and delicious, Utrecht-style.

24-10-2017

Restaurants in the Utrecht region can participate in the Flairtje campaign from October 28 through November 30. Flairtje stands for fair trade and regional products. That fits well with Driessen Food. Quality and taste are our top priorities, and we source many products from the Utrecht region. Restaurants can take advantage of a beautiful selection of products that is highlighted below.

Cheesemakers from the Region

Our Utrecht farmer’s and goat cheeses are sourced from the cheese farm De Brienenshof in Cothen, produced according to an artisanal process. A true Utreghtser is the Oude Gracht cheese. The milk for this magnificent cheese is supplied by farmers from around Utrecht, and the cheese is made in the cheese factory of De Graafstroom. The Romero, with its rosemary rind from IJsselstein, and Le Petit Doruvael from Montfoort must also not be missing from this selection.

Potatoes from Werkhoven

The Rijnveld pieper is cultivated by the Blitterswijk family in Werkhoven. The clay-rich soil of the Kromme Rijn region ensures a flavorful Agria potato with a tight skin and a golden-yellow interior. A great potato for making fries.

Smoked Goose Breast from Cothen

The smoked goose breast is artisanal smoked by Rokerij Lens in Cothen. Through the proper method of brining, using a mix of dried beech and oak wood, and the smoking technique, the goose breast acquires an exceptional flavor.

Apples and Pears from Houten

Diced apple cubes, apple slices, and peeled stewed pears are sourced from our apple farmer from Houten. In the harvest months, our Elstar and Jonagold apples and Gieser Wildeman and Conference pears also come from Houten and Odijk.

Delicious Utregs

One of the initiators of the Flairtje campaign is Lekker Utregs. Lekker Utregs connects city and region, promotes the trade in Utrecht food, and labels products and hospitality. For Utrecht has much to offer: fruit from the Krommerijn region, meat and cheese from the peat meadow area, asparagus from De Bilt… No gentech, no bio-industry, and no unnecessary transport. Delicious, fresh, and healthy!

Crawfish from the Groene Hart

This exotic beauty roams in the Dutch meadows among the sheep and cows. It crawls through small ditches, lives in corridor systems beneath the pasture landscape, competes with native animals, digs burrows, and causes digging damage in the pasture, riverbanks, and dikes if insufficient fishing is practiced.
